Channel Letters and Wall Signs

Walls signs can be of various sizes shapes and designs but basically the are reasonably flat and affixed to a wall. They can be a simple flat panel material with vinyl letters and graphics adhered, or a complex design of materials and finishes internally or externally illuminated. Terms used to describe wall signs are flat panel sings, box signs, channel letter signs and reverse channel letter signs.

Channel Letter Wall Signs

Pan Channels are the most common type of sign letter. They consist of a metal pan that is shaped like a letter. This pan houses the electrical and lighting components of the letter and can mount directly to a building's fascia. Illumination was typically done using neon tubes, or florescent tubes for large letters, but with today's technology most sign manufacturers are using LED illumination. A plastic face is then attached to the letter pan using trim cap material. The face is typically colored and translucent, enabling the sign to be seen at great distances during the day and light up at night. Pan Channel letters are a great way to show potential customers exactly where you are located. They are used most typically in retail centers, shopping plazas, and strip malls. Below are examples of some of our channel letter sign installations.

Reversed Channel Letter Wall Signs

Reverse channel letter signs are a very different design and give the sign a very unique look when illuminated. Like the channel letter signs, they also consist of a metal pan that is shaped like a letter. Illumination is typically done using the some processes as the channel letter signs. The difference is that the face may or may not be translucent materiel, and the the letter pans are fabricated with an open back. When they are installed. the pans are not directly mounted to the surface they are attached too. There is a space between the pan and the surface. This allows the light to emanate out of the back of letter pan, giving it a shadow effect. If it has a translucent face the light is also emanated from the front of the pans with the color of the translucent face. This allows for some for innovate sign designs and our design team at American Tropical Signs & Services can help you create the the eye catching look you want for your business's wall sign. Below are some examples of our reversed channel wall sign installations.

Box Wall Signs

Box wall signs are basically a metal can that is created as a box with a translucent face. They can be different shapes, sizes and colors but the common characteristic is the sign illumination is contained in one pan with a translucent face. The illumination is typically done with florescent lighting or LED's. Most municipal codes do not allow the typical box signs anymore, but designers have gotten creative with three dimensional translucent faces and recessing the sign pan in the wall instead of surface mounting the pan. This gives the box sign a clean and stylist look. Below are are some of our box sign installations.
